Service, Emotional Support, Therapy, and Comfort, Oh My!
For those of you who don’t know me, I am in real estate. I have been involved in residential sales for years, and in the recent past worked in Property Management.
One of the biggest issues in real estate property management today is Animals. From Pets, to true Service dogs and everything in between. Everyone thinks they are an exception to the rules, and since there is no definitive “registry” or “license” that will help identify the real Service animals, what we have is a real mess.
Ask the Airline industry how things are going for them. For the moment, the airlines have declined to take the situation on, but with new horror stories and complaints daily, it is just a matter of time until there is a point of no return.
According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)”
A. Under the ADA, a service animal is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability.
